ABSTRACT

Introduction: Occupational health professionals (OHP) have played an important role in surveillance, prevention and control against COVID-19 at the workplace. Objective(s):To determine the risk factors associated with exposure to SARS-CoV-2 during the first and second waves of the Pandemic in Peru. Material(s) and Method(s): A cross-sectional study and secondary data analysis were made. OHP were virtually asked about exposed to COVID-19 at work and its social, educational and labor factors. Result(s): Of the 2,863 answers, we found in the multivariate analysis: there was more frequency of exposure to COVID-19 in the mining (p value=0.046);nutrition sector (p value=0.009);in the public sector (p value <0.001), manufacturing (p value<0.001);if the professional performs care work (p value<0.001);if they perform occupational medical evaluations (p value=0.001), who are nursing technicians (p value=0.016) and who are medical technologists (p value<0.001);On the other hand, there were less exposure when they were older (p value=0.006) and among those who had a specialty in occupational health (p value=0.025). Discussion(s): Important factors were associated with occupational exposure of OHP professionals, which can serve to prioritize professionals who should take care of themselves and to include into complete vaccination schedule.Copyright © 2022, Accion Medica S.A.. ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the psychometric properties of the ISTAS 21 questionnaire to assess psychosocial risks in hospital and primary health care personnel who provide care to Covid-19 patients. Methodology: the study has a descriptive, cross-sectional design, in which the psychometric properties of the ISTAS 21 questionnaire to assess psychosocial risks in health personnel were analyzed. Results: 231 professionals (M=34.9, SD=9.36 years) from hospitals and primary care services were evaluated. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) evidences poor fit for the 5-factor model of the original structure (RMSEA =.120, CFI =.660, TLI =.597, and SRMR =.140), so the structure is evaluated with an AFE, which explains 50% of the variance and has 5 factors, with adequate internal consistency. Conclusions: It is concluded that the ISTAS 21 has evidence of validity and adequate internal consistency;and can be used to identify psychosocial risks in Peruvian health personnel who care for Covid-19 patients.

ABSTRACT

Under the context of the Pandemic COVID-19, there have been extreme situations in health that need to be transferred to the processes of medical education. Objectives: To include real cases presented in the pandemic for their analysis as a strategy to update the teaching and learning of bioethics and scientific integrity in medicine. Methods: 150 Peruvian medical students analyzed emblematic historical cases of bioethics and cases related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Interest in analyzing the cases, academic performance, and quality of ethical analysis were compared. Results: Students showed better performance, interest, and quality of analysis, with a significant difference (p < 0.001) in the evaluation of COVID-19 cases. Conclusions: Analysis of pandemic-related cases improved critical ethical analysis skills in medical students. The pandemic has provided an opportunity to update bioethics and scientific integrity content in virtual environments. © 2020 Copyright for this paper by its authors

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic, at a global level, has brought serious consequences to people's health, but it has also meant a challenge for the development of teaching activities under the context of social isolation;it is necessary to know how this adaptation has been from the students' perception, in order to facilitate decision making and the management of improvements in the teaching process in virtual platforms. Objective: To identify the perception of university students regarding virtual platforms. Methods: In an exploratory-descriptive study, a Google Forms questionnaire was applied to 395 students of a Peruvian university on the perception of education on virtual platforms. Results: The questionnaire showed 57% positive student satisfaction with the virtual service. Conclusion: Students perceive as positive the adaptations of education in times of pandemic COVID -19. © 2020 Copyright for this paper by its authors

ABSTRACT

Advances in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) provide real-time access to a vast amount of data, through which it is possible to know the behavior of social facts. In this scenario, the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has allowed, under questionable criteria of immediacy and urgency, to circulate information that generates reality and impacts on decision-making;and has also favored the appropriation of the data, exposing people to violations of their fundamental rights. Both issues are sensitive to Latin America and the Caribbean, a region that today is presented itself not only as the epicenter of the pandemic but also of inequalities. The contribution that bioethical reflection and deliberation can make in this matter, acquires special relevance with a view to generating a new covenant for the treatment of data. ABSTRACT

Background: Describe characteristics of self-medication of the population, in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic. Material and Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional survey with students in a major public Peruvian university. We measured perception of self-medication of the population, as well as characteristics, consequences, and associated factors. Results: A total of 274 students of Pharmacy and biochemistry filled in the questionnaire, 80.3% of which reported to know someone that self-medicated during the COVID-19 pandemic. 98.9 % of surveyed participants considered that the current pandemic increased self-medication practices in the population and that it occurred more frequently when people have symptoms associated with COVID-19 (65.4%). The medicines most frequently used were ivermectin (79.2%), azithromycin (71.2%) and hydroxychloroquine (38.7%). Conclusion: According to the surveyed participants, self-medication has increased in the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic. Strategies to prevent these practices are needed, as they could delay adequate medical care. © The Author(s), 2021.
